This year, the United Nations proposes to celebrate the International Day of Forests on March 21, 2024, focusing on the theme: Forests and Innovation.
It seeks to vindicate on this day, the crucial role that forests have for the maintenance of life as we know it, but it is also an invitation to think about all the solutions to be discovered that hide our forests, where, for example, through innovation, sustainable materials derived from wood are being found that replace polluting materials, to be able to change graphites and metals for the use of batteries for biodegradable alternatives, to find new sustainable fibers for the fashion industry and new extracts that cure different diseases of human beings. The possibilities offered by forests are endless, but we must keep them available and healthy, so that through innovation we have the opportunity to make such discoveries.
This approach also proposes that technology and innovation serve as a means to have early warning systems for fires and deforestation and to achieve sustainable production of natural resources.
